I am an assistant professor at IE University in Spain. My research examines how sports shape society and politics. I am particularly interested in how international sports impact relations between countries, whether sports promote racial and gender equality, and the role that sports play in building social connections within communities. My research has been covered by the New York Times, the Washington Post, and many other media outlets across more than 20 countries.

My book, Beyond the Stadium: How Sports Change the World, is being published by Stanford University Press (March 2026). The book challenges much of the conventional wisdom about the social and political effects of sports. It also explores various ways that sports can bring more value to people's lives, at both the individual and societal levels.

I received my Ph.D. in political science from UC Berkeley in 2016, where I also earned an M.A. in statistics. Prior to graduate school, I attended the University of Notre Dame, where I studied political science and Arabic. I also held postdoctoral fellowships at Dartmouth (2017-2018) and the University of Southern California (2016-2017).
